All is Well

I had the chance to meet American Idol contestant Melinda DooLittle when she was in concert with Michael W. Smith last week (pic coming soon). What an amazing voice, incredible heart, and outstanding talent.

I had the season's first "ah-ha" Christmas moment as she sang "All is well." The lyrics struck my soul; my eyes welled with gratitude and my heart was filled with overwhelming peace:

All is well all is well
Angels and men rejoice
For tonight...darkness fell into the dawn of love's light
Sing A-le, Sing Alleluia
All is well, all is well
Let there be peace on earth
Christ is come go and tell that He is in the manger
Sing A-le, Sing Alleluia

All is well, all is well
Lift up your voice and sing
Born is now Emmanuel
Born is our Lord and Savior
Sing Alleluia
Sing Alleluia

All is well.

National exposure

I got a call from my mom yesterday telling me she saw my editing handy work on national TV! Yep, the KU institutional commercial played on ABC during the KU/OU game. Fun times. It can also be seen on YouTube.

Addicted to online banking

I came to a realization today. I think I’m obsessed with checking the balance on my bank accounts. And I think I know when it started…that day that someone tried to use my credit card number at the store! I remember it like it was yesterday…

Account security guy: miss, there has been some suspicious activity on your account.
Me: Oh really? (heart starts pounding) like what?
Account security guy: Well, there’s a $2200 charge here posted within the last few hours. To Bloomingdale’s
Me: Where?
Account security guy: Bloomingdale’s. Did you make this purchase?
Me: Uh, no. I absolutely did not. What do we do?
Account security guy: Well, we’ll go ahead and close the account immediately and send it to the investigators. Let me verify your address so we can send you the new account info.

Wow. I felt violated. Then I kicked into problem solving mode and tried to think of every recent transaction where I may have had my card. Hmm…maybe it was that online purchase—or no—maybe that one time I gave my card number over the phone! That was probably it! It was that lady! I’m never doing THAT again! All the more reason to use CASH for everything. Thinking I had figured it out eased the pain a bit, but I still felt like my identity was on the brink of being stolen. I didn’t sleep well that night, but enough to make the shock go away for a few hours.

Thankfully the credit card people said the charge did not go through and there was no sign other attempted charges, nor of identity theft.

In the meantime, I’ve developed this urge to check my savings, checking and credit card balances at least twice a day. Can anyone blame me?

Frosty Fund for my Frosty fix

At the risk of such a trivial subject, mentioning my latest obsession with the new vanilla frosty from Wendy's seemed to be a blog worthy topic, and a fun alliterative title. A few reasons why I love the frosty:
  1. Tasty. Cool and creamy. Just-right texture.
  2. Hits the spot. I'd like to think it's the 8 grams of protein, but it's probably the spike in my blood-sugar level.
  3. Convenient. $1.06 with tax. A one-minute drive to. A one-minute drive thru.
  4. Social. Employees recognize me. Gracias!
  5. Motivating. After working any extended amount of time on homework, I reward myself.
  6. Nostalgic. Brings back the good old days of my first job in fast food...sneaking a junior cup sample of the chocolate frosty into the break room to sip.
So try it. See if you like it.
